Green Initiatives 2010
New this year, ARAMARK Higher Education is the official CAUBO 2010 Sustainability Sponsor. As an organization, ARAMARK is proud to support for this important initiative.

Picking up on the pledge made in 2008, the 2010 CAUBO Committee is also pursuing a “greener conference”. The following “green initiatives” are being implemented at the conference:
- Purchase of eco-friendly delegate bags, notepads and pens
- No paper handouts – each delegate will receive a CD at registration on-site containing all of the handouts submitted in advance by the conference speakers. All available presentations will also be posted on CAUBO’s website one week prior to the conference. Any handouts NOT submitted by speakers in advance of the conference will be posted on the CAUBO website following the conference.
- In the spirit of promoting green practices, we are encouraging delegates to make an optional $10 contribution (per family) to a CAUBO Sustainability Fund in acknowledgement of the emissions created by travel to the conference. All contributions will be used to off-set the costs associated with a future CAUBO sustainable initiative (e.g. professional development workshop on sustainability).
- Printing conference collateral on recycled paper
- Recycling name badge holders and delegate bags
- Menus that feature locally grown foods (where possible)
- Sustainable development topics in the program
- Encouraging our exhibitors to offer environmentally sound door prizes, reduce printed materials distributed and demonstrate their contribution to sustainability on campuses
- Use of bulk dispensers and china at breaks to reduce waste
- Linen recycle program at the Delta St. John’s
- Again this year, in lieu of speaker gifts, CAUBO will be making a donation to a not-for-profit organization. This year the committee has selected to make a donation to the MUN Campus Food Bank. It was established in 1996 and is registered as a food bank with the Community Food Sharing Association. It is staffed by volunteers, most of whom are students, and helps to assists over 30 000 people in need across Newfoundland and Labrador.
In the spirit of wellness
- We are encouraging our delegates to visit St. John’s by foot. The Grand Concourse is an award-winning integrated walkway network spanning the metropolitan area of St. John’s and its neighbouring communities of Mount Pearl and Paradise. Approximately 125km in length, the Grand Concourse links a series of rivers, lakes and ponds, parks and green spaces, providing access to the beautiful natural features of the metro region. Maps of the Grand Concourse will be available at the registration desk for your convenience.
- Calm the mind, strengthen the body and feed the soul. You are welcome to join us for a complimentary yoga class on Monday, June 14th and Tuesday, June 15th from 6:30 am – 7:30 am at the Delta St. John's Hotel and Conference Centre. Classes will be led by instructors from St. John’s Shakti Yoga Studio. All levels are welcome. Mats will be available to a maximum of 15 people.
