CAUBO launches an Enterprise Risk and Assurance Community of Practice

The pace of change within the Higher Education sector has been unrelenting. Institutions continue to face increasing challenges to meet the demands associated with these shifts, such as changing regulations, evolving employee and stakeholder expectations, and globally competitive markets.

Good governance is broadly recognized as an essential foundation to long-term organizational success and key to managing these challenges. Essential components of good governance frameworks include risk management, compliance, and assurance programs, and boards and senior leaders are expecting these functions to deliver more than ever before.

To support members in this regard, CAUBO has launched the Enterprise Risk and Assurance Community of Practice, with the leadership of Jennifer Kain, Chief Assurance and Risk Officer at UBC. The Enterprise Risk and Assurance Community of Practice will provide a forum for members to share experiences (successes and failures) and support each other in building robust enterprise risk, compliance, and internal audit/internal assurance programs that contribute in meaningful ways to the overall success of their institution.

Similar to the Procurement Community of Practice launched in 2018, the Enterprise Risk and Assurance Community of Practice will build upon CAUBO’s current Thought Leader Advisory Group (TLAG) model and will provide members with further opportunities to engage with peers across the country on this timely and important matter. The TLAG model will continue to support CAUBO through identification of priority or emerging issues, opportunities or trends, and act as an advisory group for issues that arise which require subject matter expertise.

More information on opportunities for engaging in the Enterprise Risk and Assurance Community of Practice will be communicated soon.
